In 1962, Indiana completed a series of small paintings featuring the image of a fork. Five of these paintings include the word “eat” above the image and two contain the word “for.” From this group of works, this is the only canvas that displays the word “eat” but that is titled Fork, as per the dedication on the verso. It is also the only one of these paintings in which the tines of the fork face to the left.
