Four Star, a Vinalhaven construction, was created from one of the remaining beams Indiana had salvaged on Coenties Slip. Its title comes from the four stars painted down the front of the work; unlike the majority of Indiana’s constructions it does not have its title painted on the sculpture.
The work was first exhibited at the Musée d’Art Moderne et d’Art Contemporain, Nice, France, in Robert Indiana: Rétrospective, 1958–1998, June 26–November 22, 1998, and was recently seen in the exhibition Robert Indiana: Sculpture 1958–2018, at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Wakefield, United Kingdom, March 12, 2022–January 8, 2023.
