Peace: A Pearl in Peril is one of 24 Peace Paintings created by the artist in 2003. A response to 9/11, they are a continuation of the political themes found in Indiana’s work since his days on Coenties Slip. This painting, one of four square shaped canvases in the series, was included in the exhibition Robert Indiana: New Paintings and Sculpture, at the Michael Kohn Gallery, Los Angeles, September 19–October 25, 2003.
