Peace Dethroned Again is one of 24 Peace Paintings created by the artist in 2003. A response to 9/11, they are a continuation of the political themes found in Indiana’s work since his days on Coenties Slip. This painting was first exhibited in Robert Indiana: New Paintings and Sculpture, at the Michael Kohn Gallery, Los Angeles, September 19–October 25, 2003. It was later included in Esthétique Pop at the at the Galerie Rive Gauche Marcel Strouk, Paris, January 1–February 14, 2009.
