A 50 1/2 by 50 1/2 diamond shaped red painting with a white peace sign in a black circle. The ring around the circle is white with a red inner outline and a black outer outline. In it the work's title, "Peace The Missing Gem," is painted in black letters. "Peace" appears on the top half, and "The Missing Gem" appears on the bottom half. Three small black diamonds have been painted on each side of the word "Peace." White rectangular bands of paint go from the outer edge of the circle to each corner of the triangle.

Description

Peace: The Missing Gem is one of 24 Peace Paintings created by the artist in 2003. A response to 9/11, they are a continuation of the political themes found in Indiana’s work since his days on Coenties Slip. The work was first exhibited in Robert Indiana: Peace Paintings at the Paul Kasmin Gallery, New York, April 21–May 29, 2004.
