A 25 1/2 by 12 1/2 by 11 3/4 inch sculpture consisting of fragment of a wooden beam with a haunched tenon, resting on a wooden base. The work's title, "Star," is painted in white stenciled letters across the front of the base. A metal star is affixed to the center front of the sculpture, and a small wheel has been affixed on both sides of the sculpture, to the left and right of the star. The top part of the sculpture has been painted white, with an uneven bottom edge, resembling dripping paint.

Description

Star is one of Indiana’s smallest constructions. Created in Vinalhaven, it was first exhibited in 2005 in the exhibition Robert Indiana: Wood, at the Paul Kasmin Gallery, New York. Star was also included in Robert Indiana: A Sculpture Retrospective, at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Buffalo, New York, June 16–September 23, 2018, and in Robert Indiana: Sculpture 1958–2018, at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Wakefield, United Kingdom, March 12, 2022–April 16, 2023.
