The American ART was included in the 1971 annual art calendar published by Edition Domberger, a German fine art printmaker and publisher. The ART image first appeared as a serigraphed poster, commissioned in 1970 for the exhibition American Art since 1960, at the Princeton University Art Museum, New Jersey.
Indiana wrote a brief artist's statement on the print, stating "The second appearance of the alphagraph ART, this print is one of the 30 artist's proofs on a larger format from the 1971 Edition Domberger art calendar. It is the aritst's intention that as his LOVE was to the 1960s the new ART will be to the 1970s. Serigraphed in West Germany."
