The New Glory Penny is based on a 1963 painting that was exhibited at the Guggenheim Museum in the exhibtion Coins Designed by Sculptors. The image was also reproduced on the front and back covers of the April 1963 issue of Art in America.
The print was Indiana's first effort in serigraphy. An example from the edition is in the collection of the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C.
