The X-7, an X-shaped painting comprised of five identical panels and measuring 170 by 170 inches overall. Each panel has a dark blue ground, and is dominated by a dark orange outlined circled containing a light orange heptagon with a light blue numeral seven.

Description

The X-7, an ancillary painting to The Seventh American Dream (1998), is the fourth work Indiana painted in the X-format, which he had not used since the 1960s. Previous works in the format include The X-5 (1963), USA 666 (The Sixth American Dream) (1964–66), and USA 666 II (1966–67).
