For the exhibition Banners, ten contemporary artists were commissioned to create a cartoon for the production of a limited edition banner, produced by the Betsy Ross Flag and Banner Company, New York. Andy Warhol, Marisol, and Jack Youngerman were among the artists included alongside Indiana. Indiana's contribution was The New Glory Banner, a redesigned American flag with fifty-one stars made in appliquéd felt. The show was then circulated for a year by the American Federation of Arts.
