Love and the American Dream: The Art of Robert Indiana, at the Portland Museum of Art, Maine, was Indiana’s first U.S. retrospective since 1977. The exhibition of nearly seventy works, curated by Aprile Gallant, traced the evolution of his work from the early herms through the late 1990s. The exhibition traveled to the Marietta/Cobb Museum of Art, Marietta, Georgia, November 23, 1999–January 30, 2000.
