Indiana's painting The American Dream, I (1960–61) was included in Pop Art, 1955–1970, a traveling exhibition sponsored by the International Council of the Museum of Modern Art. The show opened at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia, and traveled to Melbourne and Brisbane. It was the first time Indiana's work was exhibited in Australia.
