Robert Indiana: Number Paintings, at the Galerie Schmela in Düsseldorf, Germany, was the artist's first European solo exhibition. The exhibition featured the Number canvases previously exhibited at Rolf Nelson Gallery in Los Angeles. All of the works were sold, and Schmela would be responsible for placing Indiana’s work with many major museums and private collections in Europe.
