Robert Indiana, at the Institute of Contemporary Art, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, was the artist’s first retrospective exhibition. It consisted of thirty-eight works, including early constructions and herms, paintings, prints, and posters, from 1960 to the present. The exhibition traveled to the Marion Koogler McNay Art Institute, San Antonio, July 1–August 15, 1968, and the John Herron Art Institute, Indianapolis, September 1–29, 1968. A selection of ten works from the show then traveled to the Toledo Museum of Art, Toledo, Ohio, November 11–December 8, 1968, as Robert Indiana: Paintings and Sculpture.
