Indiana's sculpture Flagellant (1963/1969) was included in String and Rope, a group exhibition at the Sidney Janis Gallery in New York. The exhibition—a historical survey of the use of the materials in modern art—included the work of several artists, among them Man Ray, Francis Picabia, Eva Hesse, and Bruce Nauman.
