The White House Festival of the Arts was a celebration of visual art, music, and poetry conceived to highlight the importance of the arts in the United States. Indiana's The Calumet (1961) was included in a group exhibition of sixty-five works, which was subsequently transferred to the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C., June 19–July 11, 1965.
