Robert Indiana kept a series of illustrated journals during the late 1950s and 1960s, in which he discusses the development of his work as well as his daily life on Coenties Slip.
This is the second page of Indiana's journal entry for June 5, 1961. It includes sketches of three paintings that Indiana created that day, with the title and medium written to the left of each one, and the dimensions to the right. The works are 4-Star Love, a 12 x 11-inch oil on canvas, Joy, a 12 x 11-inch oil on canvas, and Gog, a 10 x 8-inch-oil on canvas. Notes to the right, added at a later date, indicate the owners of the paintings: 4-Star Love and Joy went to Eleanor Ward (the founder of Stable Gallery), and Gog went to Rosa and Aaron Esman (Rosa was the founder of Tanglewood Gallery).
