Robert Indiana kept a series of illustrated journals during the late 1950s and 1960s, in which he discusses the development of his work as well as his daily life on Coenties Slip.
In his journal entry for June 6, 1961, Indiana records that it was "a day of chores," which included a one and a half hour dental appointment, and "a date [at] 4 to pick up [the] remains of our 3-man show at Paul's." The show, Premiums: Stephen Durkee, Robert Indiana, and Richard Smith, at Paul Sanasardo's Studio for Dance, was originally scheduled to end on April 22, but had been extended. Indiana notes that dancer Donya (Feuer) was at the studio, "being very cool and business-like secure now in her proximity and place." He writes that artist Charles Ginnever transported the works for for $5, and that both he and Stephen Durkee helped Indiana bring his works up to the studio. Indiana also notes leaving a construction (M), with Sanasardo.
