Robert Indiana kept a series of illustrated journals during the late 1950s and 1960s, in which he discusses the development of his work as well as his daily life on Coenties Slip.

This journal page covers November 15–16, 1963. In his journal entry for November 15 Indiana records receiving the announcement for the East Hampton Gallery show of sculpture (Sculptors Choice), and that "all of us from [the] meeting and more (Stankiewicz) were included on [the] affiche." He then notes a cold walk through Jeannette Park for breakfast at the D/H (the Seamen's Church Institute, often referred to as the Doghouse), where he read the New York Times.

He also writes that the idea occurred to him, while painting the final wheel of Yield Brother II, that it or Yield Brother would make "fine Xmas cards for [the] gallery [Stable]."

Indiana's journal entry for November 16 is blank except for a reference to artist Cy Twombly.
