Robert Indiana kept a series of illustrated journals during the late 1950s and 1960s, in which he discusses the development of his work as well as his daily life on Coenties Slip.
This journal page covers November 26–27, 1963. Indiana's entry for November 26 is blank. In his entry for November 27 he writes "Leo Lerman came thru with [the] goods with my 1st full page color reproduction in a national magazine." Indiana's painting The Calumet, in the collection of the Rose Art Museum, Brandeis University, Waltham, Massachusetts, was featured in the article “Treasures on Campus: Pop Goes Brandeis!” in the December issue of Mademoiselle.
