Robert Indiana kept a series of illustrated journals during the late 1950s and 1960s, in which he discusses the development of his work as well as his daily life on Coenties Slip.

In his journal entry for September 21, 1962, Indiana records proceeding with his second attempt at his "poster painting" (Stable), for his solo show opening in October. The page includes a sketch of the star which appears in the work.

He then describes his evening, beginning with Chryssa contacting him alarmed after hearing Art's (clinical psychologist and art collector Arthur Carr) proposal that Agnes Martin might be transferred immediately from Bellevue to the New York Psychiatric Unit. Indiana writes that he suggested she come meet Carr, who had called and wanted to meet up to go to the Feast of St. Gennaro; Chyrssa, Lenore Tawney and Indiana went to George's for dinner, and Carr met them there.

Indiana also records bumping into James and Mary Lou Rosenquist, who were on their way to attend the "mass opening of Tenth Street Galleries, as Jim has a small painting on display at [the] Brata Gallery. He probably misses somewhat [the] experience of having come up through those ranks, particularly since his work for so many years was [Abstract Expressionist] and aimed via [the] New York School." He goes on to state that "my patronage of Brata . . . certainly did me no good!"

Indiana writes that Chryssa, Tawney, and Carr came over to his studio, and immediately began talking about Martin, but that Chyrssa broke away for a few minutes to see his work. He notes that "she seems to like what she saw; she felt my prices were extraordinarily low!" and that "Marine Works seemed to strike her most of all." He also writes that "all are in harmony about Agnes' transfer [to] [Psychiatric Institute] and [the] session achieved its purpose."
