In 2003, Indiana extended the Peace Painting series in a series of diamond-shaped paintings of “ping,” the Mandarin word for “peace.” The series consists of three four-panel works, and six small single panel paintings in a variety of color combinations. His use of this Mandarin character followed the Ài series of 2002.
