Made in U.S.A.: An Americanization in Modern Art, the ‘50s and ‘60s looked at the themes and subjects in American art of the 1950s and 1960s. An exhibition of over 100 paintings and sculptures, it approached the works in a cultural context that elaborated upon the nature and significance of their iconcography. The works in the exhibition both celebrated and questioned American culture, and Indiana was represented by two paintings, The Demuth American Dream No. 5 (1963) and Alabama (1965).
The exhibition traveld to the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Kansas City, Missouri, July 25–September 6, 1987, and to the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Richmond, Virginia, October 7–December 7, 1987.
