Robert Indiana: Early Sculpture, 1960–1962, at the Salama-Caro Gallery, London, was the first gallery exhibition devoted to Indiana’s early herms. The show included thirty-three works, including nine herms, six columns, and the first eight examples of the recently completed bronze casts. Additionally, the exhibition included early paintings from Indiana’s collection: The Slips (1959–60), Terre Haute (1960), The American Sweetheart (1959–61), The Sweet Mystery (1959–62), The Melville Triptych (1962), and the early constructions Wall of China (1960–61) and Jeanne d’Arc (1960–62).
